Are There Families Ready to Adopt My Child?
Are there even families who want to adopt my baby? Yes, there are many families who, for one reason or another, want to build their family through adoption. Sometimes it is because they have struggled with infertility; sometimes they already have children but have room for more. What all the families have in common is that they love children and have room in their hearts and lives to love and raise a child.
All families who adopt children have to be approved for adoption. They all go through a Home Study, which is a process where they meet with an adoption specialist, explain why they want to adopt, and share information about their background and their plans for their future. They talk about how they were raised and how they plan to raise a child. The adoption specialist makes sure that they don't have a criminal record, especially for certain types of crimes, and have never abused or neglected children. There may be other parts to the Home Study process in your state. Your counselor can explain them to you.
