Dear Expectant Parent(s),

We have been racking our brains for the right words, but continuously fall short. So instead of using our brains, we would like to share a little of our hearts with you.

First things first, our names are Brandon and Christena, but Christena usually goes by her nickname Tena. Brandon works as a quality assurance specialist, where he enjoys not being stuck at a desk all day, details, and interpersonal relationships. Tena serves as the secretary at our church, takes online classes, and plans to be a stay-at-home mom. She loves learning, teaching, and executing a good plan. We both currently serve in the Air Force part time, where Brandon is in strategy and Tena is in operations.

Lately, we have been remodeling our house. We moved a little over a year ago and got a house with some property. The house was straight out of the 70’s. Imagine a lot of maroon shag carpet, pea soup green porcelain and Pepto-Bismol pink wall paper. Since that time we have remodeled and updated all of the rooms. We are really excited about the nursery and have enjoyed filling it with all the necessities.

Now that remodeling is coming to a finish we have had more time to do the things we enjoy. We love the outdoors, hiking, fishing, camping, and gardening. We also really like watching TV series, cooking, and playing cribbage. We love having a fireplace in our living room and Tena can be caught reading by it often. Brandon on the other hand prefers to work with his hands and can be caught building, playing the drums, or tinkering with something. We love to travel and immersing ourselves into a new and different culture.

We have been married for over 7 years and consider each other to be our best friend, and as cliché as that sounds, we really love our marriage. We met over nine years ago and chose to rely on God and put Him first in our relationship. In this way, we have learned so much about how to love and who God is. We always dreamed of having children and after many failed fertility treatments, we found out we were unable to bear children. We now feel led to adopt and add to our loving family. We are beyond excited and grateful for the opportunity to open our home, hearts, and souls to our future child(ren).

The hardest part of writing this letter, is that it is one sided. We do want to tell you what we intend on doing and where our hearts are. We can’t promise that we will never disagree, but we can promise that we will always put our future child(ren)’s needs before our own. We promise to love, respect, and care for any child that is brought in to our home. We promise to be open minded, open hearted and to keep the door open for healthy relationships with his/her biological family. We promise to encourage and support our child(ren) in whatever they are passionate about. Most of all, we promise to listen to you and hear you out.

We look forward to making this one sided conversation a two way one. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us and for your bravery. In case we don’t meet, we hope the best for you and your future. If you decide you’d like to meet us, we look forward to that as well! We have so much love in our hearts and look forward to all the joy, responsibility and challenges that parenthood has to offer. We dream of building forts, changing diapers, being sleep deprived, going to events, and ultimately raising a well-rounded, happy child(ren).
