Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. Even though we do not know you yet, we have a great amount of respect and admiration for you. We cannot truly understand everything you are going through, but please know we offer our sincere support and prayers. We hope by reading more about us, you will find comfort in knowing how much we want to share our lives with a child.

John was born in Muskegon and has lived in Kalamazoo for most of his life.  Sue is originally from Chicago, but moved to Portage in the middle of her junior year in high school.  We both attended Michigan State University and our families have known each other for over 20 years.  Sue moved out of Michigan after college, but missed her family and moved back to Portage in 2010.  Fate finally intervened in 2012 when we met each other online.  We became engaged in October of 2013 and got married in May of 2014.

Both of us grew up with amazing parents who had strong, loving marriages.  Bob and Chris (Sue’s parents) have been married for over 50 years.  Ed and Patti (John’s parents) had just celebrated their 47th anniversary when Patti passed away in 2016.  Family was the foundation in each of our families and is reflected in our own strong family values.

Our immediate family is quite large on both sides and all are very much a part of our everyday lives.  We both have two brothers and a sister.  Together, we have 10 nieces and 5 nephews, numerous aunts and uncles, and over 40 cousins.  Birthdays are always a BIG deal in our family.  Each birthday (no matter if it is a milestone or not) is a celebration for and with the whole family on their special day.  Everyone is excited to have a new baby join our family and can't wait to shower them with love!

Our Holidays are always spent with family.  We host Christmas festivities every year at our home.  During the summer holidays, we enjoy spending time on the lake.  We are blessed to have a family that enjoys many of the same activities that we do.  Nothing is better than watching our nieces and nephews bond and becoming best friends.  It is especially fun watching the fireworks from the water, maybe the best seats around!

We intend to provide a life where a child feels secure in the love and support of their family.  We will raise our children with Christian values and will promote respect for all people. Our children will be encouraged to pursue their dreams, whatever they may be.  We plan on providing college education and other opportunities as well.  We will do our best to introduce new experiences and plan on taking many vacations, either to foreign counties, across the country, or close by.

We live in a family oriented neighborhood with kids always outside playing.  There are many parks and walking trails nearby and many fun activities just a short drive away.  Our home is a two story house with a recently finished basement.  We have 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.  We also have a pool in the backyard which is a lot of fun in the summers having BBQs or just relaxing.

There was never a question that we both wanted a large family.  We know firsthand how fun and loving a household full of children can be.  We have been blessed with such love and happiness in our childhood that we can’t wait to share this with our own children.   We had always planned on adoption, but because we met later in life (and have had trouble conceiving naturally), God has brought us to adoption first.  We do plan on more children, but we don't know yet how God will lead us down that path.

Thank you for taking the time to read a little about us.  We want to let you know that if you are looking to have an open adoption, we are definitely open to that.  If you choose us, we would also feel honored to meet you and spend some time together if that is your choice.  We don’t yet know what our relationship will look like, but we are excited to explore it with you.  However, if you are looking for more of a closed adoption, we certainly respect your privacy.  We will be here to support you in any way we can and at the level with which you are most comfortable.

John & Sue
